Dream Team Blog Series: Calling all Women – Join me at Habitat for Humanity’s Women’s Build
By Christine Cesarino
An estimated 5.4 million American households face worst-case housing needs, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Receiving little or no government housing assistance, these families are unable to find a decent place to live at a price they can afford to pay.
These people aren’t just an arbitrary number; they are our co-workers, our neighbors and maybe even our family members. They live right in here our community. That’s why I’m proud that Advantage will be leading a team for Habitat for Humanity of Nassau County’s National Women’s Build Week 2015.
Taking place on Saturday, May 2nd and Wednesday, May 6th I will be building alongside my friends, family and coworkers to help a family in Hempstead get back on their feet. Habitat is still looking for more volunteers to help with the build in honor of Women’s Build Week, their goal is to recruit about 50 women to help build each day. While men are more than welcome to join in the build, Lowe’s will donate $25,000 toward the mortgage if enough women participate.
They are looking for Participants (to actually help with building) or Volunteers (to help out with lunch, setup and cleanup, or T-shirt distribution).
Build Dates: Saturday, May 2nd and Wednesday, May 6th
Build Time: 9am-3pm
Location: Hempstead, NY
If you are interested in participating, you can register for one or both days here, or contact me directly at ccesarino@liadvantage.com with any questions or for more information. I look forward to seeing you at the build!
